DAY 4: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

A lazy wake-up call, except for those who want to see a cow being milked or watch the sun’s rays liven up the new day. After breakfast we cross over the N1 to the village of Merweville. Here we stop for refreshments at the house of one of the local inhabitants to enjoy the Karoo's well known hospitality. From here we travel up the Rooiberg Pass with its spectacular views. At the top we will stop for lunch at a farmhouse.

After lunch we depart for the observatory (on the road to Sutherland) which houses SALT, the largest telescope in the southern hemisphere.(eta 14h15). We do a tour of the facility guided by one of their staff. From here it is a short 20 km tar road to Sutherland and our guest house. We have a leisurely dinner and for those who are interested, the guest house owner has a small telescope and he can help you identify a few stars. (Total distance 270 km.)
